the long delay stumbles
a cart wheeling ecstasy
from a bungled misstatement

calculations abort the fact
and challenges are lies
too much token for the sane
not enough for the weary

vaporized statistics
counsel the berated
obnoxious swined pearls
in stoic adjournment

walls leveling at the thought
of spurned cowardly advance
cataclysmic in reference
the night disappears

 
     Carter Monroe lives, works, and writes in the provinces. His novel, Journey, was published in January 2001.
